March 31, 2023: International Scientific and Practical Conference on Personalized Therapy for CNS Tumors in Children in a hybrid format
On March 31, Almazov Centre hosted the International Scientific and Practical Conference on Targeted and Immunotherapy for CNS Tumors in Children. The conference focused on personalized diagnostic and treatment options for tumors of the central nervous system (CNS) in pediatric patients and highlighted the most significant and unresolved issues of modern diagnostic strategies, the possibilities of molecular genetic testing in routine clinical practice, the timing and indications for diagnostic testing. Speakers also presented clinical approaches to the management of various nosological forms of CNS tumors in children and discussed the most effective treatments.
The conference brought together pediatric oncologists, neurosurgeons, morphologists, specialists in molecular genetic testing, radiologists, radiation therapists and pediatricians.
Some of the topics covered included modern approaches and difficulties in diagnosing CNS tumors in children, CNS tumor predisposition syndromes in children, therapy for various embryonal tumors of the CNS in children, indications and limitations of high-dose chemotherapy with autologous HSCT, metronomic chemotherapy for CNS tumors in children. Medical experts discussed the topical issues of personalized medicine in pediatric neurooncology and the effectiveness of targeted therapy for low-grade gliomas. Speakers addressed the key issues of glioma imaging during therapy, radiation therapy in pediatric neurooncology and surgical treatment of CNS tumors in children.
The conference provided a great opportunity for the participants to showcase specific examples and share the experience in various aspects of diagnosis, treatment and management of CNS tumors in children.
The event took place in a hybrid format as part of the programme of the WCRC for Personalized Medicine.
