During the novel coronavirus disease pandemic, the analysis of association between vitamin D levels and SARS-CoV-2 infection in residents of eight Russian districts did not reveal significant linkages. However, the results of a study conducted at the Research Laboratory of Novel Coronavirus Infection and Post-COVID Syndrome demonstrated a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency regardless of the geographic location in Russia.

A study in medical professionals who worked with COVID-19 patients in the infectious diseases hospital of Almazov Centre additionally showed a low level of vitamin D and a rapid increase in the serum 25 (OH) D concentration when using oral doses of 100,000 IU of cholecalciferol for 2 weeks.
